Miss Me When I'm Gone
Gerard Finbar Connelly knows what loss is. In a horrific car bombing he'd lost his brother and sweetheart as he laid helpless on the side of a Belfast road, his right leg blown to bits. Years later, he finds himself in America, helping his Aunt Eleanor manage summer rentals along the Jersey Shore. He likes this uncomplicated life. New women to woo every summer, the cold solitude of fall and winter to hide behind.
That all changes when Libby rents the apartment above him for the summer season. Together, they become obsessed with his Aunt's summer project. The ever constant vigil over an empty beach front home, one that has been rented by a family that will never come. A family that died in a tragic accident months before.
Libby and Gerard help Eleanor tend to the home. Changing sheets, watering flowers, and keeping a candle outside constantly burning in their memory. The two get lost in creating a fantasy of what the family would be doing day by day, getting lost in the world of the dead instead facing their own ghosts and being present in the world of the living.
Gerard decides Libby will be his summer project. He will get her to open up as to why she came to south Jersey, all alone and seeming to need no one, much like him. Little by little she does and it forces him to face his own past. When the truth about Libby lands on his doorstep, it will change him forever.
Waiting For Your Heart
Marie Antoinette Echieviellia wakes up to find an engagement ring on her finger and has no recollection how it got there. As a matter of fact she can't remember the last few days. The taxi outside her window is waiting to take her to the airport. Her dream vacation is hours away; a week alone in Venice, Italy. Frantic, she makes some calls, but her family and friends are no where to be found. She packs the ring away and heads off. Nothing will ruin her trip, not even a little amnesia.
James, an American Gondolier, befriends her and wisks her off to the American Inn she's booked in. There she finds a cast of characters who seemed to be as lost as she is. Shu, a Chinese-American studying Italian- who barely has the English language down- teaches her key phrases. Mel, the Inn's chef, teaches her about the seduction of Italian cooking but only seems to make mac n' cheese and fried chicken. Beauregard, the consierge, can't stop sulking about his girlfriend long enough to even look at her, let alone help anyone with accomodations. All the while James takes her out everyday and they talk about life, love, and what would truly make them happy, being there together....forever
Real life comes crashing down on her when a man named Richard arrives claiming to be her fiancee. And the answers to her missing few days will force her to chose between this life and the one she left behind.
Martina played hide and seek with her three year old daughter Eva and in the ten Mississippi's it took for her to count, Eva vanished into thin air. Philadelphia's finest combed the streets, an Amber alert went out, and not a single trace of her daughter could be found.
Three days later the phone rings and it's Eva. Seeming happy, not scared as she should be. Eva asks why Mommy hasn't found her yet? That the Funny Man said time was up. In the few seconds Marty has she asks her daughter where she is. Eva giggles and tells her mom the Funny Man says they're in hell.
Marty never hears from Eva or the Funny Man again. The police no longer have the man power to search. When she begins to investigate on her own, she finds other children have gone missing while playing with their parents all across the country. They too received strange phone calls days later and never heard from their children again. These cases span twenty or so years and remain unsolved.
Desperate, and unwilling to give up hope, Marty continues the search when no one else will. Six months pass and while doing research she piques the interest of a librarian, Kaden. Together they uncover a small trail the Funny Man has left behind. They also unearth a trail of bodies. The remains of children. But there is hope for Eva. Every child went missing at the age of three. All the remains are of when the children are five.
The FBI finally takes interest but that will never be okay with Marty. She and Kaden continue to race against the clock to find Eva, alive. And make sure the Funny Man never takes another child again.
